11:36AM - DS or DS lite (want to buy)
We are hunting for a nice used Nintendo DS or DSlite [with power cord(s) & games & ?] for our 7y/o. He's just asked for one for Xmas. So if you have one OR know someone who does, my betterhalf said we'll pay "better then what Gamestop's gonna pay you for them." She's hoping my connectedness will help this idea come to be as she was just @ a Gamestop's and offered to pay this lady more (in cash right there & then) and she couldn't wrap her head around it - the lady asked if she'd get store credit too. (slaps my own forehead) so yeah. What do you say? Can you help us out?

7:16PM - Mail Art Call
Call for Submissions of MailArt
This call is an act of interpersonal research. It is my goal, through this project, to gain a better understanding of views other than my own. My research focuses the culture surrounding burial. What are your beliefs about burial? Why should or shouldn’t we bury our dead? How should they be buried? What about this act is significant?
In exchange for sharing your thoughts with me, I will send you a response piece outlining my views. At the end of this project, I will also send each participant a record of all submissions.
Guidelines: There are no limitations on the size or shape of your postcard. Please do not include any inorganic materials in your artwork. To receive my response, please include a return address.

4:05PM - Jessica Birge
In case you didn't know from somewhere else yet...
(Former RA at Bruce..)
The family of a woman who hasn't been seen or heard from in nearly a week is fearing the worst.
Jessica Birge, 25, was last seen getting into her car in the parking lot of the Gruene Outpost River Lodge in New Braunfels at about 10 p.m. last Saturday.
"I knew something was wrong when she didn't come home," Birge's mother, Cindy Waechter, said.
Birge met up with some old friends last weekend and spent the day at the Comal River.
"They spent the afternoon tubing, and then they went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant in New Braunfels," Waechter said.
Waechter said Birge was last seen at the lodge, then vanished Saturday night.
"My daughter got in her car to come home, and that was the last that anybody has seen of her or heard of her," Waechter said.
Birge, a college student, was last seen wearing a pink bikini. She has a scroll tattoo on the back of her neck.
"I just believe for whatever reason, she's unable to contact me," Waechter said.
Birge drives a dark green 2001 Suzuki sport utility vehicle with Texas license plate number K99 RNX.
"So if anybody sees that car, I'd be very grateful if you can contact either the Heidi Search Center or the Comal County Sheriff," Waechter said.

So apparently I didn't read my contract all the way through and now I'm responsible for a very large "reletting fee" to move out of my place at the end of May. I've never had any problems with C-Bar-T before this, so this one's my bad. BUT if I can't get someone to rent it by next month, I HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER MONTH.
Check this place out:
-2 bedroom, 2 bathroom
-dishwasher (works really well)
-pretty cheap bills: electric/water about 80/mo (split between 2 roommates); gas about 20/mo
-big closets in both bedroom, and another one in the living room
2515 W. Prairie, Apt. #3
Denton, TX 76201
ALL THIS can be YOURS as well as THE BEST LOCATION FOR AN APARTMENT EVER--less than 3 blocks from campus. Goes for $550 a month (the website still says 575), but if you go through us, they will give it to you for $525/mo. Split up that's $262.50 each, with around 50 each monthly for basic bills (internet/cable not included, but Charter has been very good to us: $70/mo for extended cable and internet). Oh, and we're non-smokers. I believe C-Bar-T is pet-friendly too, but there's probably a one-time fee.
Neighbors are quite nice (they gave us quite a bit of our furniture, which I am throwing in here--see below), by the way. Totally fine with parties from time to time, and loud practicing if you are a musician.
IF YOU ACT NOW I will throw in some furniture if you are interested. A nice big-ass cushy couch, a bookshelf, and a desk that originally comes from the Bruce Hall cafeteria, plus most of what you see in these pictures furniture-wise (except for the bed and orange couch and orange chair) I will likely also give you. No drums, cymbals or guitars. Sorry.
( A BUNCH OF PICS UNDER CUT. Sorry the place is so messy, but I promise the black spots are PENNIES or other non-stain-thingsCollapse )
PLEASE CONTACT ME A.S.A.P. about this. JUNE 1ST I NEED TO BE OUT OF HERE AND HAVE SOMEONE RENTING.
Call NATE at 832-457-2759
You can leave questions in LJ-comment form but if you are interested I would prefer you call.
Thank you thank you thank you,

Well, the bruceatlarge group has been quiet for a good long time, so I thought I'd stir the pot a bit. Plenty of us spent a good deal of time firing stuff about politics back and forth, so I figured I'd duplicate a post I just made to the unt and dentontx communities, and see if we could get anything going.
Thought I'd post the Dallas Morning News articles on the debate yesterday, in part for everyone's information, and in part because on those pages there's also a link to the debate itself, so you can watch it if you missed it.
The Dallas Morning News did both a standard article and an analysis. The article:
And the analysis:
One of the editors also did an op/ed piece, but I wanted to give info that was as unbiased as I could.

11:50PM - Piano Player at Wedding
Hey! Yo! My fellow UNT grad fiance and I were wondering if there's a piano player here who would want to work our wedding. The wedding's August 5th, a Saturday, in the evening. We want the piano player to play before the ceremony, play accompanying music for the bride, and play the closing music. The ceremony's near downtown Dallas. The price we're looking for is somewhere in the area of $100. If anyone's interested, drop me a line at email@example.com. Thanks!

I just sold back some textbooks at Voertman's, but I found out that they're getting a new edition for Environment: The Science Behind the Stories in the Fall....if anyone is taking BIOL 1130 (Environmental Science) this summer, please buy my book! My roommate has the exact same textbook, except it's a softcover. We paid $78.75 for each of them, and they're in excellent condition. CD-Roms are still in its packaging. I'm asking $45 for either one. My roommate also has Our Nation's Heritage (Vol. 1, 5th edition) and America's History-To 1877 (Vol. 1, 5th edition)...also in softcover. She paid $70-something for each, and she's asking $50 for each. All prices are negotiable, and we'll go for best offer lol. Thanks!

10:51PM - Moving out giveaway!!!!

Also, if you need me to store any of this stuff for you until school starts, I can do that as well!
Things I'm giving away:

Thanks for looking!!
9:38PM - Great Rack
If you're a drummer with a big kit, you might be interested in this rack I be sellin (more images behind cut):
( Rack/component imagesCollapse )
If you're tired of lugging around cymbal stands and tom hardware, check this out:
It's a Pearl DR-80 rack, bought a few years back. Road-tested, a little dinged up and dusty (I'll clean it up for you if you buy it), but still works great (it's a fancy piece of metal--it won't ever just break). Legs detach (without tools) for easy storage in a backseat or practice room. The only reason I don't want it anymore is because I downsized my kit (no need for a ton of cymbals and drums anymore) and I want to get back the money I spent on boom stands. I'm including FIVE attachments for cymbal arms (I think two of them are a little wobbly, but again, I'll help you fix that with some rubber to make it unnoticeable) and THREE cymbal arms (one of them is just a hair too small, but again, you could either scrap it or fix it up with some tape)--I lost one of them, and I needed another one for an attachment clamp. You can get new arms for 20ish bucks at any music store. The little bell you see on the right side portion is...probably not included. If you want to buy it, it probably won't cost that much, but otherwise I'll detach it when you buy it.
The total of this stuff new would be about 300 bucks, and that's at a discount place. I'm asking $140 OBO.
The last picture is a 6" Zildjian Zil-Bel (sound sample). Don't use this much anymore either. Brand new condition. Would be good for prog rock/metal stuff, and some other styles. Carter Beauford from Dave Matthews' Band uses one, and so does the guy who plays for Jack Johnson. New price is anywhere for 80-130. I'll do it for $45 OBO.
If you are interested, or wanna see it first, leave me a note and I'll get back to you. I WILL TOTALLY GO DOWN ON THESE

11:53AM - MUSICIANS NEEDED!!!!
Cross-posted to my LJ and any e-group I think might be interested:
Hey brucelings, any music majors/band members out there need a paying gig for the summer? Spread the word about this, we need people pretty soon.
Dallas Shakespeare Fest is looking for some musicians for their performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream: the Musical' That's going on in June and July.
Here are the specifics:
-Standard journeyman pop/rock gig, pays $75 a session (rehearsals and shows)
-Looking for a keyboard, bass (five string preferred but not required), drums (trap set), and electric guitar
-Must be able to read music. Yes, this has come up. That's why I'm asking the music-major dorm.
-You need your own instrument and amp for this job. You will be playing outside, and while we call the show if it rains, your stuff might get rained on so make sure you have some sort of cover for your amp. Guitar and Bass should be wireless.
-You'd have to be available Tuesday through Friday nights from 6:30-10:30 for rehearsals (although they may not always run that long), and 12:30-4:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. Serious time commitment, but you'd make over $2000 in a summer and have something really cool to put on your resume.
Here's the sort of musician we're looking for, according to the sound crew:
"We're seeking experienced players who can move butts, expert in pop/rock styles from 70's forward. Infectious, polished groove capability a must. Playing rigs must be suitable for our large outdoor venue, roadworthy, gig-tested, and wireless for Guitar/Bass. Drummer needs a studio/road level kit with some meat, and needs to know how to take a 70's beat and put some smack in it. Keyboardist needs a solid, modern gig-keyboard with excellent piano, Rhodes, Wurlie, B3, etc. sounds, and a good sensibility for suspending harmonies and overall slickness. Someone who can easily handle a Steely Dan/Stevie Wonder set with dead-on harmonies and tones. Guitarist needs full range of lead and rhythm sounds, dialed in and ready to rock, and strong stage presence. Bassist needs a fat solid groove, a la James Jamerson/Chuck Rainey/Will Lee. Double espresso and cigarettes, not chai tea and yoga, for this one."
Copied verbatim from an e-mail from one of our sound designers; I can't tell you what all of that means, but I'm guessing someone out there will have more of a clue than I do.
Anybody interested yet? E-mail Randy Tallman, the Musical Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or want to be a part of this, or comment if you have a question for me.
Oh yeah, and tell him Bonnie Cleveland sent you over. They know I'm trying to scare people up for this, so dropping my name would probably help both you and me.
